On the 4th of March 2017. DevCon held it’s first rust codecamp event for students at Zuellig Building in Makati City. With the generous sponsor from the GMO Internet Group the event was able to run smoothly.

Over 30 participants from different schools joined the event namely from school such as UP Manila, FEU Institute of Technology, Ateneo de Manila University and iAcademy. Due to the unexpected amount of participants who came, the event venue may have been a bit too packed for ones own comfort, but it didn’t hinder the participants as well as the speaker to enjoy the discussion, in fact it might have even improved it.

For the start of the event Ms. Kristiane Joice Esporas (photo on left side), Team Lead for Devcon Rust CodeCamp, made the opening remarks, introducing the speaker, the team and the sponsors. Ms. Esporas continued this with a brief history as well as the main mission and vision of the DevCon Org. to the new comers. There were a lot of new faces who came for the event foreshadowing the bright future DevCon is heading into.

After the introduction of Ms. Esporas, A representative of Z.com, Ms. Julie Bulaklak (photo on right side), Business Developer and Marketing Associate of the company also made a short speech. In her short talk she discussed the history of GMO Internet Group as well as it’s new founded brand Z.com.

 

 

With the end of Ms. Esporas speech, it was time for the discussion of the Rust Language programming and for that we had Mr. Robert Reyes, a Mozilla Rep, He is also the Lead Localizer for the Tagalog Firefox and Firefox OS Projects.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After the discussion the event had a short break for lunch provided by Vanilla All Spice Catering.

At the end of the event. Freebies were given to some lucky participants.
