Python Code Camp: Adventures in Data Science for Developers
5 July 2014 (Saturday)
Python Code Camp: Adventures in Data Science for Developers is a whole day seminar and workshop in partnership with Python Philippines and Coins.ph that aims to teach practical data science skills with Python. Topics to be covered are SQLAlchemy, consuming APIs, data visualization and analysis, and Flask.
Speakers and Topics
- Sony Valdez – CRUD with SQLAlchemy
- Ronald Cheung – Consuming APIs
- Stephanie Sy – Data Visualization/Analysis
- Mark Steve Samson – Flask
You should attend if you are a student or professional with at least intermediate general programming skills and has experience in web development (i.e. knows about RESTful APIs and is familiar with any web framework). This workshop is not recommended for new programmers.
Participants must bring their own laptops. Development will be done in a Linux environment and must have Python (v2.7.x++) installed.
Non-Linux users can run Linux in a virtual machine using VirtualBox or VMWare Player. We recommend installing Linux Mint 17.
Before the day arrives, we recommend installing the libraries we will be using into your machines. It would save time and if everyone is ready, we won't have to wait for installation (and downloading) to finish.
First, download Python 2.7.
Next, download pip.
Then type in the following in your shell:
> pip install sqlalchemy
> pip install flask
> pip install requests
> pip install django
> pip install djangorestframework
> pip install numpy
> pip install pandas
> pip install bokeh
Download the twitter api.
In summary, here are the libraries we will be using:
- Twitter api https://github.com/sixohsix/twitter
- Django REST Framework
While the DevCon team loves to conduct workshops that would help you learn new technologies as a community initiative, heads up! There will be no certificates provided for this camp.
